Jonathan is an associate in our commercial, technology and data protection team with significant experience in general commercial law, IT transactions and emerging technologies. Jonathan also advises on software licensing, data protection compliance, cyber security, and new disruptive technologies, such as AI, blockchain technology and machine learning.
Jonathan has advised clients in relation to the licensing, deployment and development of technology from a supplier and customer perspective. He has advised clients in relation to the separation and transition of IT infrastructure, software licensing, the procurement of software as a service, and machine learning solutions. He has regularly advised on the technology risks associated with corporate transactions and provided key remediation advice and solutions.
From a data perspective, Jonathan has spent a number of years working at the ICO (the UK data protection regulator) and brings an in-depth regulatory perspective to the firm's data protection offering. He has advised on key public-sector audits covering UK privacy legislation and lead on high-profile, sensitive and novel information rights cases whilst at the ICO. At the firm, he has advised clients on a wide range of data protection issues including international data transfers, data protection audits, data processing agreements, regulatory issues with disruptive technology, automated solutions to data protection compliance and the landmark development of a data protection code of conduct.
